HC Deb 14 January 1985 vol 71 cc15-6W
Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what he estimates to be the running costs of the national reporting centre in 1984; and who is responsible for the payment of its costs.

Mr. Giles Shaw

I will reply to the hon. Member as soon as possible.

Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will publish the agreement between the national reporting centre and individual chief constables.

Mr. Giles Shaw

There is no such agreement.

Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what level of manpower individual chief constables are committed to providing on request for mutual aid through the national reporting centre.

Mr. Giles Shaw

The system of providing mutual aid through the national reporting centre, and the number of officers who can be provided in response to a request for aid is an operational decision for individual chief officers and there is no set level of manpower which they are committed to providing.

Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department on what basis he receives reports from the national reporting centre; and whether these reports are given daily.

Mr. Giles Shaw

The Home Secretary receives daily reports through the national reporting centre from chief officers of police in England and Wales about their operations in relation to events arising from the miners' dispute.
