HC Deb 14 January 1985 vol 71 c19W
59. Mr. Spearing

asked the Attorney-General if he will make a statement concerning the current waiting list for cases awaiting hearing by the official referee.

The Solicitor-General

For some years the number of cases awaiting hearing by the official referees had been steadily increasing; but that trend has now been reversed. The number of cases outstanding at the end of November 1984 was 1,430, 108 fewer than at the beginning of the year. The number of official referees in London has recently been increased from four to six, and further improvement may be expected.
