HC Deb 09 January 1985 vol 70 c441W
Mr. Parry

asked the Prime Minister if she will make a statement on her recent visit to China.

The Prime Minister

I had a successful visit to China from 18 to 20 December. My main purpose was to sign the joint declaration on the future of Hong Kong together with Premier Zhao Ziyang. I also held discussions on Hong Kong with the Chinese Prime Minister and other leaders. Both sides stressed their strong commitment to the agreement and to its full implementation.

I also held useful discussions with Chinese leaders on a number of bilateral and international issues. They welcomed the proposal for a high level trade delegation to visit China in March under the leadership of Lord Young. I informed Chinese leaders that Her Majesty The Queen was pleased to accept in principle the invitation to visit China. I also invited Premier Zhao Ziyang to visit Britain in 1985.
