HC Deb 28 February 1985 vol 74 c257W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis as to the cost to public funds of the recent visit to St. Lucia by two officers of his force to conduct inquiries into the loss of the navigator's log book from HMS Conqueror; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Giles Shaw

I understand from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that the two officers who went to the West Indies departed from the United Kingdom on 3 February and returned on 20 February. The cost of the return air fare was £1,363 per officer. During their stay, each officer was entitled to a daily subsistence allowance and reimbursement of additional expenditure on items such as official telephone calls. The Director of Public Prosecutions, at whose request the visit was made, will fully reimburse the Metropolitan police.
