HC Deb 20 February 1985 vol 73 cc504-5W
Mr. Maginnis

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland why the Department of Education for Northern Ireland has decided to remove the one shared remedial teacher post from Killyman, Moy, Moygashel and Tamnamore controlled primary schools; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Scott

The decision to remove the remedial teacher post from these schools in the school year 1985–86 was taken after the staffing needs of the schools had been considered in the normal way taking account of their total enrolments, the number of pupils requiring remedial education and the total staffing allocated to each school.

Mr. Maginnis

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the planned reduction in primary teaching staff in the controlled sector in the Southern Education and Library Board area for the year 1985–86; and to what extent this will lead to a reduction in remedial teachers.

Mr. Scott

The present allocation of full-time teaching posts to controlled primary schools in the Southern Education and Library Board area for the school year 1985–86 will result in a total reduction of four posts and no change in the number of remedial posts. These allocations may be altered as a result of appeals from the board.
