HC Deb 13 February 1985 vol 73 cc195-6W
Mr. Peter Bruinvels

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) why he does not collect information on the number of stateless people in the United Kingdom; if he will now do so; and if he will make a statement;

(2) whether there is any measure available to Her Majesty's Government which would enable him to estimate the number of stateless persons residing in the United Kingdom; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Waddington

We do not consider that the demand for information on the number of stateless persons resident in the United Kingdom would justify the costs involved in obtaining it.

There is no source of information collected for another purpose from which an estimate could be made with an acceptable degree of accuracy.
