§ Mr. Tony Banksasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what meetings have taken place between civil servants in his Department and officers of London boroughs to co-ordinate requests under section 5(2) of the Local Government (Interim Provisions) Act 1984; what boroughs were involved; and if he will make a statement.
§ Sir George Young[pursuant to his answer, 31 January 1985, c. 281]: This subject has arisen on numerous occasions in the course of discussions about abolition-related matters. My Department is always ready to discuss the use of section 5, with any borough (or district) that wishes to do so.
