HC Deb 04 February 1985 vol 72 cc417-8W
Mr. Ron Davies

Mr. John Stradling Thomas

None at present, but the matter is kept under regular review.

Mr. Ron Davies

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will estimate the total financial benefits which have accrued to districts in Wales which presently enjoy designated area status under the Inner Urban Areas Act since obtaining that status.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

The table gives details of capital expenditure on Home Office services by Welsh county councils and joint police authorities.

Mr. John Stradling Thomas

Under the Inner Urban Areas Act 1978, designated districts have additional powers to assist in the economic regeneration of their areas through the provision of grants and loans, particularly in declared Improvement Areas. These grants and loans are eligible for urban programme support and since 1979–80 some £2.7 million out of a total Urban Programme allocation of £23 million to these districts has been approved as a contribution towards these activities.
