HC Deb 19 December 1985 vol 89 cc311-2W
Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) if he will list the health authorities which have instituted formal arrangements to monitor consultants' commitment to National Health Service work;

(2) if he will list the health authorities which have instituted disciplinary proceedings against consultants in relation to their commitment to National Health Service work.

Mr. Hayhoe

I regret that this information is not collected centrally.

Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he is satisfied with the present monitoring by health authorities of consultants' commitment to National Health Service work.

Mr. Hayhoe

Consultants' sessional commitments to National Health Service work depend upon their individual contracts. It is for their employing authorities to satisfy themselves that the terms of those contracts are being met and, where this is not the case, to take appropriate action. If prima facie evidence of the failure of a consultant to meet the terms of his contract were to come to my notice, I would ensure that it was drawn to the attention of the employing authority.
