§ Mr. Kirkwoodasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list in the Official Report all current bilateral aid programme schemes being carried out in sub-Saharan Africa.
§ Mr. RaisonBritish bilateral aid supports schemes of three main kinds in sub-Saharan Africa. First there are some 300 current bilateral projects in the region. They are included in a list entitled "Projects by Country and Sector at 31 December 1984" a copy of which is being placed in the Library of the House. Secondly under non-project or programme aid we provide British goods and equipment for Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Somalia, Sudan, Zaire, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Thirdly our technical cooperation includes schemes in areas such as consultancies, the supply of manpower and training, and related equipment. A general description of their nature and purpose is to be found in "British Overseas Aid 1984", copies of which are in the Library of the House. Further bilateral aid is given in the form of food, and, in cooperation with voluntary agencies, under such schemes as the British volunteer programme and the joint funding arrangements.
