HC Deb 10 December 1985 vol 88 c586W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, pursuant to his reply to the right hon. Member for Manchester, Wythenshawe, on 22 November, Official Report, column 311, if there is any action he will be taking to increase the £28,000 spent from the aid programme in 1984–85 on help specifically for the deaf and hearing-impaired in developing countries.

Mr. Raison

We do not set aside a specific sum from the aid programme for projects to help the deaf and hearing-impaired in developing countries. I am certainly willing to consider requests for assistance in this field but it is primarily for aid-recipient Governments to decide whether they wish to put forward such requests. Applications from British charities for help with eligible projects can be considered under the joint funding scheme.
