Mr. Wiggin

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what was the net cost of the Meteorological Office during the financial year ended April 1985.

Mr. Norman Lamont

The net cost of the Meteorological Office in the financial year 1984–85 on a fully cost-accounted basis was £47.5 million, after taking into account receipts from repayment services amounting to £20.9 million.

Mr. Wiggin

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will place in the Library a copy of the Sharp-Hansford report on the Meteorological Office.

No, but I shall consider doing so as soon as decisions have been taken on the recommendations in the report.
