HC Deb 04 December 1985 vol 88 cc279-80W
Mr. Frank Field

asked the Secretary of State for Defence for what market highly enriched uranium from the Capenhurst plant is being produced.

Mr. Norman Lamont

[pursuant to his reply, 29 November 1985, c. 705I assume that the hon. Member is referring to the enrichment plant mentioned in the then Secretary of State for Defence's statement in June 1982, at columns 128–29. This plant is entirely separate from the facilities used for the production of enriched uranium for civil purposes. It produces uranium enriched to an intermediate level, which, after further enrichment in the United States of America, will satisfy all the foreseeable United Kingdom defence requirements for highly enriched uranium.
