HC Deb 02 December 1985 vol 88 c31W
Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if he will make a statement on his Department's review of the anonymity of defendants in rape cases;

(2) if he has any plans to bring forward legislation to remove the anonymity of defendants in rape cases; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Mellor

In its report on sexual offences, published last year, the Criminal Law Revision Committee recommended that anonymity should be removed from defendants in rape cases. The Government will announce their conclusions on this matter in due course.
