asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will now introduce amendments to the Water Act 1983 to require water authorities to meet in public; if he will list all representations he has received on this subject; and if he will make a statement.

No. I am satisfied that the existing arrangements approved by Parliament last year enable water authority boards to operate more effectively while safeguarding the right of the press and of the public to information about their activities.

A number of hon. Members and others have made representations on this subject.
