§ Mr. Tony Banksasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will itemise the grant applications received by his Department from the voluntary sector in the Greater London area for 1984–85; which were successful; and what amount of grant was paid.
§ Mr. WaldegraveAlmost all grants given by my right hon. Friend to the voluntary sector are to bodies working on a national or regional basis; or are given through local authorities under the urban programme; or are given to housing associations in respect of particular projects. However SHAC—the London Housing Aid Centre—and the Housing Advice Switchboard work in Greater London only; in respect of 1984–85 they applied for £175,460 and £173,500 was approved. Payment is by instalments. In addition, we estimate that voluntary organisations working in Greater London will receive some £25 million this year in grants made by local authorities under the urban programme, which is 75 per cent. central Government funded.
