asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what studies his Department is conducting on manpower requirements within the West Midlands county council fire service as a prelude to the proposed abolition of the county council; and if he will make a statement on the preliminary results and their implications for staffing levels in (a) the Coventry area and (b) the county as a whole.
