§ Mr. Spearingasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will estimate the total United Kingdom capital accumulation and the amount of capital investment in domestic United Kingdom public and private organisations and the amount of all United Kingdom investments abroad in 1983.
§ Mr. Peter ReesGross domestic fixed capital formation (GDFCF) in the United Kingdom in 1983 was £49.6 billion, of which £36.1 billion was private sector and £13.5 billion public sector; and the United Kingdom's stock of fixed assets net of depreciation was about £830 billion at the end of 1983 valued at current replacement cost of which about £500 billion was private sector and about £330 billion was public sector. United Kingdom investment overseas in 1983 was £10.6 billion and corresponding holdings at the end of 1983 were about £125 billion. These figures are published in the 1984 Editions of "United Kingdom National Accounts" and "United Kingdom Balance of Payments", available in the House of Commons library.
Figures of United Kingdom GDFCF and United Kingdom investment overseas are not strictly comparable. GDFCF consists only of tangible fixed assets whereas United Kingdom investment overseas covers non-Government net financial flows for all investment purposes.
