§ Mr. Barry Jonesasked the Secretary of State for Wales (1) how many (a) National Health Service jobs and (b) nurses' posts were lost to Welsh health authorities for each of the years 1979–80, 1980–81, 1981–82 and 1982–83, respectively;
(2) if he will break down the National Health Service jobs lost to each Welsh health authority in 1983–84; how many jobs were lost in each hospital; and if he will indicate the nature of the jobs cut, specifying separately the number of nurses' posts cut in each Welsh hospital.
§ Mr. Wyn RobertsManpower information held centrally refers only to staff in post and in each of the four years specified this figure increased for Wales as a whole, as also did the number of nursing staff in post.
The annual census for NHS staff is carried out at 30 September each year, and the results for 30 September 1984, are not yet available.
The following table illustrates for each health authority the changes between the census of staff held on 30 September 1982 and that held on 30 September 1983. Further breakdown by individual hospital can only be obtained at disproportionate cost.
