asked the Secretary of State for Wales what steps he has taken to promote the development of small business co-operatives in Wales in 1984; what measures he intends to take in the future to promote their development; and if he will make a statement.

The Government have introduced over 100 measures to help small businesses most of which are of help to co-operatives. Advice and guidance is offered to co-operatives through my Department's small firms information centre and the Welsh Development Agency's counselling service. I have given additional support in Wales under the urban programme to projects promoting co-operatives and
