§ Mr. Dalyellasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on his discussions with M. Claude Cheysson about the French Foreign Minister's talks in Buenos Aires in the last week of July 1983 in relation to (a) France's conditions for giving French investments to Argentina, in relation to Argentine willingness to sign agreements with the International Monetary Fund and (b) France's attitude to United Nations' involvement in resolving the dispute about the Falkland Islands.
§ Mr. RentonNo. As is normal practice details of my right hon. and learned Friend's discussions with M. Cheysson are confidential. Presumably the hon. Member wishes to refer to July 1984, not 1983, as the French Foreign Minister did not visit Argentina in 1983.
§ Mr. Dalyellasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what public funds were spent on the transport of horses selected by the British Bloodstock Agency at Newmarket which left Great Britain for the Falklands in June 1984.
§ Mr. RentonNone.
§ Mr. Foulkesasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he has had talks with other European Economic Community member states concerning the forthcoming Falklands debate at the United Nations; and what information he has concerning the voting intentions of those states at the debate.
§ Mr. RentonWe have discussed the forthcoming Falklands debate at the United Nations General Assembly with our Community partners on several occasions. We look to them once again to refrain from lending their support to the one-sided draft resolution we expect Argentina to table. The details of our discussions must remain confidential.
