Mr. Gerald Howarth

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many prosecutions relating to the unauthorised disclosure of classified information from his Department have been brought in each of the last 10 years.

Mr. Butcher

During the last 10 years, no officer in this Department has been prosecuted for the unauthorised disclosure of classified information.

Mr. Gerald Howarth

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he is satisfied with the arrangements within his Department for protecting the confidentiality of classified information.

Mr. Butcher

I am satisfied that the procedures adopted for the protection of classified information within the Department of Trade and Industry comply with the common standards of security maintained by all Government Departments.
