HC Deb 30 November 1984 vol 68 c623W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services, what evidence he has about the effects of deposits of lead, zinc, copper and cadmium on health; and what studies he is making about them.

Mr. John Patten

It is believed that all mining of these metals in the United Kingdom has ceased. Waste from past operations can still pose potential problems, but detailed investigation of an exceptionally contaminated site has already confirmed the absence of current health effects, and further work is not contemplated.
