§ Mr. Altonasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether his Department issues any guidelines on the use of animal experiments and dissection as part of the school curriculum; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. DunnThe Department has issued advice on the care and maintenance of living animals in schools; the use of such animals is normally restricted to observation of behaviour and growth and to husbandry. There are educational grounds for the inclusion of a limited amount of dissection, frequently using abattoir material, in biology courses in secondary schools, but the Department has published no guidance on this matter.
