HC Deb 23 November 1984 vol 68 c327W
Mr. Eastham

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what guidance he issues to local authorities about measures taken to inspect premises in the prevention of salmonella poisoning.

Mr. John Patten

[pursuant to his reply, 22 November 1984, c. 239]: The most frequent cause of salmonella food poisoning is poor standards in the handling of food. This is something to which careful attention is paid by environmental health officers when inspecting food and catering premises in the course of enforcing food hygiene regulations. The Department has not issued particular guidance on the subject.
