HC Deb 21 November 1984 vol 68 c186W
Mr. Kirkwood

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what estimate he has made of the sum necessary to ensure adequate renovation and replacement of existing housing stock.

Sir George Young

The amount required annually for renovation and replacements will depend on a variety of factors including the rate of deterioration; the standard to which houses are repaired or improved; and the balance between renovation and clearance. It is for local authorities to decide, in the light of changing circumstances, how much should be allocated to renovation and replacement from within the total capital resources available to them. It is also for private individuals to decide how much to spend on the renovation and replacement of their properties.
