HC Deb 21 November 1984 vol 68 c186W
Mr. Mason

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what fishing rivers have been polluted in the area of the Yorkshire water authority during the past two years; what is the authority's policy on prosecution following pollution by industrial enterprises; whether it has a policy on re-stocking of the lost fish due to pollution; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Macfarlane

[pursuant to his reply, 20 November 1984]: During 1982–83 and 1983–84 there were significant pollution incidents on the Rivers Swale, Ure, Calder, Aire, West Beck, Don and Dearne and their tributaries.

In mounting a prosecution for pollution the authority has regard to the severity of any fish kill as well as the available evidence and the particular circumstances. Requests for aid towards the restoration of any fish stocks affected by pollution are considered sympathetically.
