Mrs. Beckett

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will provide information showing the 50 geographical areas in Great Britain with the lowest levels of (a) lowest decile earnings and (b) median earnings on (i) a constituency basis or as close as possible thereto and (ii) the regional and sub-regional basis used in the "New Earnings Survey" in April, broken down between (1) men aged 18 years or over, (2) women aged 18 years of over and (3) workers aged under 18 years, and show the relevent earnings levels.

Details on the lowest decile and the median of weekly earnings and of hourly earnings for full-time adult men and adult women in the standard regions of Great Britain in April 1983 are published in New Earnings Survey 1983, part E, table 116. Further details on the lowest decile of weekly earnings for counties and London boroughs are published in tables 108 and 113 of the same volume. Later details on the lowest decile of weekly earnings for regions and sub-regions in April 1984 are published in New Earnings Survey 1984, part A, tables 12 and 13. Copies of these publications are available in the Library.

Details of the distribution of earnings at parliamentary constituency level are not available.
