HC Deb 16 November 1984 vol 67 c369W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what discussions he or his officials have had with the British Steel Corporation regarding the seeking of injunctions by the corporation against secondary picketing of its installations in the current miners' dispute; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Norman Lamont

The Secretary of State and I have naturally been kept in close touch by the chairman of the British Steel Corporation with issues arising from the miners' dispute. The Government have made it clear that they would not wish to discourage any employer from using the legal rememdies which are now available as a result of the employment legislation. Action under these provisions must, however, be a matter for the judgment of the particular management concerned.
