HC Deb 16 November 1984 vol 67 c369W
Mr. Deakins

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what information he has about categories of manufactured goods which were made in the United Kingdom in 1972 and which are no longer manufactured in the United Kingdom; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Fletcher

Techological change and trends in fashion ensure that there is a constant stream of products becoming outmoded, outdated or unprofitable, but there is no central register which would provide a list of these. The same forces ensure the development of new products based upon the exploitation of new materials, and techniques and this has led over recent years to the introduction of such items as fibre-optic cables, home micro-computers, video cassettes and recorders, and many more.
