HC Deb 15 November 1984 vol 67 c360W
Mr. Dixon

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what steps he is taking to reduce the waiting list for geriatric beds in south Tyneside;

(2) what mechanisms he has for monitoring and evaluating standards of care for elderly persons in south Tyneside.

Mr. John Patten

South Tyneside health authority is responsible for the provision of health services in its area, and I understand that it is currently considering what changes it should be making in services for the elderly. Its plans, when endorsed by the regional health authority, will form the basis for monitoring performance and achievements in the review process. If the hon. Member wants any further information, he may care to contact the chairman of the health authority.
