HC Deb 15 November 1984 vol 67 cc359-60W
Sir Geoffrey Finsberg

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many of the National Health Service regional general managers have been appointed from within their own regions; and in how many cases their former posts are being kept open for them on an informal or formal basis in case their appointment is not renewed.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

Ten of the 12 regional general managers appointed so far come from within their own authority with pre-existing contracts. These contracts contain pre-existing rights which are retained during and beyond the period of the additional contract as general manager. They do not guarantee a return to the former post held if the general manager contract is not renewed.
