HC Deb 14 November 1984 vol 67 c268W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will specify the proportion of the £6.8 million Overseas Development Administration roading contract in the Falkland Islands attributable to (a) roads in Port Stanley and the cost per metre of constructing these and (b) the road from Port Stanley to the Port Stanley airport; and what proceedings are being contemplated against the contractor, in view of the break-up of this road immediately after its opening.

Mr. Raison

Of the £6.8 million, £3.2 million was spent on Stanley town roads and £2.9 million on the airport road.

The cost per metre for the Stanley roads was £667 inclusive of fixed assets. I am advised that it is unlikely that contractual liability for the damage to the airport road could be shown.
