HC Deb 14 November 1984 vol 67 cc250-1W
29. Mr. Moynihan

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what assessment his Department has made of the implications for United Kingdom policy towards El Salvador of President Duarte's peace initiatives.

Mr. Renton

We welcome President Duarte's initiative, which is in line with his commitment to work for national reconciliation, to strengthen democracy and end human rights abuse in El Salvador. To demonstrate our support for these policies we have offered to resume a modest technical assistance programme and have made available £100,000 for emergency civilian supplies under our aid programme.
