HC Deb 12 November 1984 vol 67 cc123-4W
Mr. Baldry

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the third European nuclear disarmament convention held in Perugia in July 1984.

Mr. Luce

This convention was, like its predecessors, critical of both NATO and the Warsaw Pact. Delegations from the official "peace committees" of several Warsaw pact countries were present for the first time, but a large number of representatives from unofficial peace and human rights groups in Eastern Europe were denied exit visas and were unable therefore to attend. Copies of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office's background brief, the "Third European Nuclear Disarmament Convention, Perugia, July 1984", produced in September 1984, are available in the Library.
