HC Deb 12 November 1984 vol 67 cc117-8W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what has been the change in real terms of moneys spent or proposed to be spent on council house buildings, excluding receipts on sales, over the years 1979–80 to 1984–85.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

The latest local authority assessment of the 1984–85 capital expenditure on the housing revenue account is £46 million below the 1979–80 level.

Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many council houses were constructed in 1979–80; how many were constructed in 1983–84; and what is the projected number of council house starts for 1984–85.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Figures for public sector dwellings completed are:

Local authority New town
1979–80 3,098 340
1983–84* 1,556 138
* Provisional.

No reliable estimate of housing starts for 1984–85 is available.

Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list the annual amounts realised from council house sales for each year since 1979.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

The following table gives the net discounted selling price for council dwellings sold in the years 1979–80 to 1984–85.

£ million
1979–80 8.8
1980–81 12.1
1981–82 85.2
