HC Deb 24 May 1984 vol 60 cc492-3W
Q35. Mr. Frank Field

asked the Prime Minister, pursuant to her answer of 1 May, Official Report, column 186, what evidence she has that some hon. Members do not seek to protect the effectiveness of the intelligence service in safeguarding the nation's interests; and if she will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

I have nothing to add to a reply which I gave to the hon. Member for Yeovil (Mr. Ashdown) on 8 May, at column 731. The effectiveness of the security and intelligence services depends on secrecy, and, as I said in this House on 1 May, at column 187, the more intelligence matters are discussed in public the more our sources are compromised.
