§ Mr. Proctorasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis with regard to incidents of public disorder which occurred at Charing Cross underground station on Monday 7 May; what were the numbers and the ethnic breakdown of the persons involved; what injuries were sustained and by whom; and if he will make a statement on the substance of the report.
§ Mr. HurdThe commissioner tells me that at about 3.30 pm on Monday 7 May a group of about 30 white youths arrived at Charing Cross underground station and ran into a group of about 20 black youths. A fight broke out and British Transport police officers and Metropolitan police officers were called to the scene. When the police arrived, the youths ran away. One black youth was arrested for the possession of an offensive weapon. A girl who had received a slight injury to her head declined medical assistance.
