HC Deb 16 May 1984 vol 60 cc157-8W
Mr. Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many pensioners in (a) Yorkshire and Humberside, (b) West Yorkshire, (c) the Kirklees metropolitan district council area and (d) the Huddersfield area are financially totally reliant on the state retirement pension and other state benefits that may accrue as a result.

Dr. Boyson

I regret that information is not available in the form requested. However, it is estimated from data obtained from the family expenditure survey that in 1981 there were approximately 140,000 persons over pension age living in private households in Yorkshire and Humberside who were totally reliant on the state retirement pension and other social security benefits as their only source of income. Corresponding figures for West Yorkshire, Kirklees metropolitan district and the Huddersfield area are not available.
