§ Mr. D. E. Thomasasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will estimate the number of families receiving family income supplement in Wales at the latest available date; and what proportion these are of the total number eligible.
§ Mr. NewtonI attach details of the number of family income supplement (FIS) recipients at December 1983, the latest available date.
Great Britain Wales One-parent families 81,000 3,000 Two-parent families 120,000 8,000 Total 201,000 *12,000 * The sum of the components does not equal the total due to rounding. I regret that it is not possible to make a reliable estimate for Wales of those who may be entitled to FIS but have not made a claim. The latest estimate for Great Britain indicates that about half those eligible take up their entitlement.
