§ Mr. Jannerasked the Attorney-General, pursuant to the reply of 26 April, Official Report, column 601, when equal opportunities officers were designated within his Department; by whom such designation was made; and what the grades and duties of such officers are.
§ The Attorney-GeneralAn equal opportunity officer was designated on 2 November 1983 in the Department of the Director of Public Prosecutions and on 25 April 1984 in the Treasury Solicitor's Department. In both cases the officer designated was in the grade of senior legal assistant. The designation in the Director's Department was made by the deputy director and ratified by the Whitley Council; the designation in the Treasury Solicitor's Department was made by the legal personnel officer with the approval of the Treasury Solicitor. It is envisaged that both equal opportunity officers will monitor and advise on equal opportunity policy and procedures and will also provide a direct link between the Departments and the Cabinet Office (MPO).
