asked the Solicitor-General for Scotland, pursuant to his reply of 26 April, Official Report, column 602–3, when the equal opportunities officer was designated within his Department; by whom such designation was made; and what the grade and duties of the officer are.

The Solicitor-General for Scotland

An equal opportunities officer was designated in September 1983 by the Crown Agent (Deputy Secretary). The officer designated is the deputy establishment officer, graded HEO level. The duties of the officer are to monitor the departmental procedures, liaise with management and personnel office, provide advice on equal opportunity matters and disseminate advice to management as necessary.
