asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many people have been employed in the United Kingdom paper and board industry in each of the years since 1974.

[pursuant to his reply, 1 May 1984,c. 96]: The following table gives the estimated number of employees in employment in the paper and board industry in the United Kingdom. The figures for June 1974 to September 1981 (a) relate to minimum list heading 481 to 484 of the 1968 standard industrial classification. Those for September 1981 (b) to June 1983 relate to groups 471 and 472 of the 1980 SIC. As there are slight differences in definition, the two series are not entirely comparable.
