§ Mr. Jannerasked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) how many prosecutions of companies, directors, managers, secretaries and other individuals, respectively, have been instituted under section 2 of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974; how many and what percentage of such prosecutions were successful; and how many and what percentage failed;

§ Mr. Gummer[pursuant to his reply, 4 May 1984, c. 169-70]Relevant information about prosecutions under each of the above sections of the Health and Safety at Work Act is readily available only for those taken by the factory inspectorate. These represent the majority of prosecutions taken. The following table provides a breakdown into those categories that are separately distinguishable in readily available records for the period 1975 to 1983. The analysis is by informations laid rather than by cases; one case can cover a number of information laid.
