§ 54. Mr. Pendryasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will take steps to encourage local authorities to focus parts of their housing capital expenditure on schemes which improve living conditions for the elderly.
§ Sir George YoungIt is for local authorities to determine their own priorities for housing investment from within the total resources available to them. We encourage authorities to concentrate on providing for those in greatest housing need, including elderly people on low incomes. The Department has prepared a film, "Housing for the Elderly", which illustrates a range of housing opportunities for elderly people and has been widely shown to local authorities.
