§ Mr. DunnSince 3 May 1979 one proposal to establish a new grammar school and five proposals to establish new grammar schools by the amalgamation of existing schools were approved by my right hon. Friend or his predecessor, or were determined by the local education authorities concerned. Detailed records of proposals to establish new comprehensive schools are available only in respect of those published under sections 12 to 15 of the Education Act 1980. Since August 1980, when those sections came into force, proposals have been approved for the establishment of 57 new comprehensive schools; of these 25 were established by means of the amalgamation of existing schools.
