Mr. Thurnham

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will estimate the total cost of the Official Report of (a) the House of Commons and (b) the House of Lords in 1983–84.

Mr. Hayhoe

These costs are estimated at £7.7 million and £1.7 million respectively. They include all relevant HMSO expenditure, and the directlyattributable editorial costs borne on the Votes of the two Houses.
