HC Deb 29 March 1984 vol 57 c292W
Mr. Steen

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what in each year frm 1979 to 1984 was the average time span between the lodging of an appeal against the refusal of a local authority to grant planning permission and its hearing; and how many appeals during this period were heard (a) eight weeks, (b) nine weeks, (c) 10 weeks, (d) 11 weeks and (e) 12 weeks after they were lodged.

Mr. Macfarlane

I regret that the information requested is not available in the form required. The report of the chief planning inspector, copies of which are available in the Library of the House, gives details about planning appeals decided by both the written representations and the inquiry procedures. The report includes information on the volume of cases received and the median times at various stages.

Mr. Steen

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many appeals have been lodged with him against the refusal of local authorities to grant planning permission in each of the last five years.

Mr. Macfarlane

The details are as follows:

Appeals
1979 12,990
1980 16,208
1981 16,637
1982 13,900
1983 13,699
