HC Deb 28 March 1984 vol 57 cc197-8W
Mr. Lawler

asked the Secretary of State for Employment when the pilot follow-up survey of early leavers from the youth training schemes will be published.

Mr. Peter Morrison

The information collected through the recent sample survey of leavers from the youth training scheme is currently being analysed. Results will be reported to the youth training board in due course and a copy placed in the Library at the same time.

Mr. Bruce

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many young people have entered the youth training scheme since it began; and what percentage are handicapped and what percentage are deaf or partially hearing.

Mr. Peter Morrison

342,317 young people had entered the youth training scheme up to the end of February 1984. Information on the number of disabled entrants to the scheme is only available quarterly. By the end of December 1983, 1,899 young people known to be disabled had entered the scheme.

Information is not available on the number of entrants to the youth training scheme who were deaf or had partial hearing.

Mr. Spearing

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what evaluation he has requested, received, or made concerning the respective merits of modes A and B of the youth training scheme; where any such evaluation is published; and what subsequent actions he has taken.

Mr. Peter Morrison

[pursuant to the reply, 23 March 1984, c. 612]: As stated in the White Paper "Training for Jobs" (Cmnd. 9135), so far as possible training under the Youth Training Scheme will be provided through employer-led (mode A schemes), though mode B provision will continue to be needed. It has recently been agreed that a detailed evaluation programme of the scheme as a whole will be carried out.
