HC Deb 27 March 1984 vol 57 c153W
34. Mr. Nellist

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many persons in Coventry are in receipt of supplementary benefit; and how that figure compares with May 1979.

Dr. Boyson

During February 1984, the latest available period, 38,600 supplementary benefit cases were in action in the Coventry local offices. The comparable figure for May 1978 was 22,100.

35. Mr. Foster

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he has any proposals to issue instructions to his Department's local offices on liaison with local housing authorities where recipients of supplementary benefit are living in substandard accommodation.

Dr. Boyson

We are arranging for DHSS staff to be reminded that they should draw to the attention of the local authority any establishment they visit where there seems to them, as laymen, to be cause for concern about standards.
